Stephen, Sir Leslie
(28 nov. 1832, Londres, Inglaterra–22 feb. 1904, Londres).

Crítico y literato inglés. Después de asistir a Eton College y a la Universidad de Cambridge, pudo entrar a los círculos literarios y en 1871 inició un período de once años como editor de The Cornhill Magazine, revista a la contribuyó con artículos de crítica literaria. Su trabajo de mayor erudición fue su Historia del pensamiento inglés en el s. XVIII (1876). Sin embargo, se estima como su máximo legado el Dictionary of National Biography [Diccionario nacional de biografías], que editó de 1882 a 1891, y al que contribuyó con cientos de sus meticulosos artículos. Fue padre de Virginia Woolf y de la pintora Vanessa Bell (n. 1879–m. 1961).
